There have been no reports about casualties or damage inflicted by the quake so far.

According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences, a powerful tremor has hit Taiwan, with the epicentre of the 6.1-magnitude quake located near the city of Yilan, at a depth of 67 kilometres. According to other reports, the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.2 or 6.7.
