U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.62%
Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the declined 0.62%, while the index fell 0.44%, and the index added 0.50%.
The best performers of the session on the were McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:), which rose 2.02% or 4.19 points to trade at 211.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:) added 1.45% or 0.72 points to end at 50.45 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:) was up 0.83% or 1.89 points to 229.29 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:), which fell 3.68% or 6.47 points to trade at 169.25 at the close. Chevron Corp (NYSE:) declined 3.29% or 3.04 points to end at 89.41 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:) was down 2.59% or 3.96 points to 148.99.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 29.24% to 156.35, Incyte Corporation (NASDAQ:) which was up 6.81% to settle at 86.84 and Nektar Therapeutics (NASDAQ:) which gained 5.17% to close at 17.61.
The worst performers were Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:) which was down 8.28% to 19.16 in late trade, Macy’s Inc (NYSE:) which lost 6.68% to settle at 10.34 and Diamondback Energy Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 6.29% to 46.96 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Arvinas Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 94.92% to 58.34, Biocardia Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 62.41% to settle at 4.58 and Veru Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 52.64% to close at 9.70.
The worst performers were Aerpio Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 45.78% to 1.2200 in late trade, Fossil Group Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 27.31% to settle at 9.66 and Sellas Life Sciences Group Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 20.43% to 6.66 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1934 to 1152 and 90 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1518 rose and 1491 declined, while 75 ended unchanged.
Shares in Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to 3-years highs; rising 29.24% or 35.37 to 156.35. Shares in Arvinas Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to all time highs; up 94.92% or 28.41 to 58.34. Shares in Veru Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to 5-year highs; rising 52.64% or 3.35 to 9.70.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.62% or 11.45 to $1832.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.92% or 0.43 to hit $47.00 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.68% or 0.34 to trade at $50.31 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.30% to 1.2147, while USD/JPY fell 0.00% to 104.00.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 90.648.
